الأخلاق والسلوك الاجتماعي والحياة الروحية
Among the most valued portions of Masabih as-Sunnah are its chapters on ethics, social conduct, and spiritual life. These sections move beyond the legal obligations and permitted/forbidden distinctions to address the moral and spiritual quality of Islamic life — the internal dimensions of Muslim practice that distinguish genuine faith from mere formal compliance.
The chapters on character (akhlaq) contain some of the most beloved hadiths in the Islamic tradition. The statement that the Prophet was sent to perfect noble character, the description of the Muslim as the one from whose tongue and hand others are safe, and the equation of good character with the heaviest item on the scale of deeds — these narrations appear in the Masabih with the most reliable chains available.
The chapters on sincerity (ikhlas) and the dangers of showing off (riya) address the internal spiritual dimensions of religious practice. Al-Baghawi selected hadiths that warn against performing good deeds for the sake of human recognition rather than Allah's pleasure, including the famous description of the first three people to be judged on the Day of Resurrection — the scholar, the fighter in Allah's cause, and the generous person — who are found to have acted for recognition rather than for Allah and are accordingly judged.
The social conduct chapters cover greetings, visiting the sick, attending funerals, the etiquette of eating and drinking, the proper behavior in gatherings, and the rights of the road. These hadiths together paint a picture of the prophetic model for the texture of daily social life — the small courtesies and considerateness that create a community of genuine brotherhood and mutual respect.
The chapters on remembrance (dhikr) and supplication (dua) provide a selection of the most reliably transmitted formulas for remembering Allah at specific times and in specific circumstances. These chapters have been among the most practically used portions of the Masabih, since they give Muslims the authenticated prophetic formulas for the spiritual practices that accompany daily life.
