The most authoritative fiqh manual of the later Shafi'i school. An-Nawawi abridged and refined al-Rafi'i's al-Muharrar, selecting the strongest positions and correcting errors. This concise text became the standard reference for Shafi'i jurisprudence, particularly in Southeast Asia, Egypt, and Yemen. Ibn Hajar al-Haytami's Tuhfat al-Muhtaj and ar-Ramli's Nihayat al-Muhtaj are its two most important commentaries.
