Tarikh at-Tabari (History of Prophets and Kings)

The most comprehensive work of Islamic historiography, covering world history from creation through the prophets, the life of Muhammad, the Rashidun caliphate, the Umayyads, and the Abbasids up to 915 CE. At-Tabari preserved multiple accounts of each event with full chains of narration, allowing readers to evaluate conflicting reports. The work was translated into a 39-volume English edition by SUNY Press.
