English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and offered herself in marriage to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not take her, so a man said: 'Marry her to me, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'What do you have?' He said: 'Nothing.' He said: 'Look, even if it is an iron ring.' He looked but found nothing. The Prophet ﷺ then said: 'Do you know anything of the Quran?' He said: 'Yes, such-and-such surahs.' He said: 'I have married her to you for what you know of the Quran.'
