English Translation

It was narrated from al-Hasan (al-Basri) regarding a man who on his deathbed acknowledged a debt of one thousand dirhams to one person, while another person produced witnesses for a debt of one thousand dirhams, and the deceased left only one thousand dirhams: 'The estate is divided equally between them — unless the deceased was insolvent, in which case the acknowledgment (iqrar) is not valid.'
