Arabic Text
أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاق ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ
النُّعْمَانِ الصَّائِدِيِّ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : " أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْنَسْتَشْرِفَ الْعَيْنَ وَالْأُذُنَ، وَأَنْ لَا نُضَحِّيَ بِمُقَابَلَةٍ وَلَا مُدَابَرَةٍ وَلَا خَرْقَاءَ، وَلَا شَرْقَاءَ، فَالْمُقَابَلَةُ : مَا قُطِعَ طَرَفُ أُذُنِهَا، وَالْمُدَابَرَةُ : مَا قُطِعَ مِنْ جَانِبِ الْأُذُنِ، وَالْخَرْقَاءُ : الْمَثْقُوبَةُ، وَالشَّرْقَاءُ : الْمَشْقُوقَةُ "

English Translation
It was narrated from Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to examine the eye and the ear, and not to sacrifice a muqabalah, mudabarah, kharqa, or shaqqa. The muqabalah is one whose ear tip is cut off; the mudabarah is one cut from the side of the ear; the kharqa is the one with a pierced ear; and the shaqqa is the one with a split ear.'
