Hadith #175
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ
أُتِيَ بِأُنَاسٍ مِنْ الزُّطِّ يَعْبُدُونَ وَثَنًا فَأَحْرَقَهُمْ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ إِنَّمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ بَدَّلَ دِينَهُ فَاقْتُلُوهُ

English Translation
'Abd al-Samad narrated to us, Hisham ibn Abi 'Abdullah narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas that 'Ali رضي الله عنه was brought some people from the Zutt who worshipped an idol, so he burned them. Ibn 'Abbas رضي الله عنهما said: 'I would not have burned them, because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do not punish with the punishment of Allah. But I would have killed them as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Whoever changes his religion, kill him.'
