Hadith #185
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ كَانَتْ لِلشَّيَاطِينِ مَقَاعِدُ فِي السَّمَاءِ فَكَانُوا يَسْتَمِعُونَ الْوَحْيَ وَكَانَتْ النُّجُومُ لَا تَجْرِي وَكَانَتْ الشَّيَاطِينُ لَا تُرْمَى قَالَ فَإِذَا سَمِعُوا الْوَحْيَ نَزَلُوا إِلَى الْأَرْضِ فَزَادُوا فِي الْكَلِمَةِ تِسْعًا فَلَمَّا بُعِثَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَعَلَ الشَّيْطَانُ إِذَا قَعَدَ مَقْعَدَهُ جَاءَهُ شِهَابٌ
فَلَمْ يُخْطِهِ حَتَّى يُحْرِقَهُ قَالَ فَشَكَوْا ذَلِكَ إِلَى إِبْلِيسَ فَقَالَ مَا هَذَا إِلَّا مِنْ حَدَثٍ حَدَثَ قَالَ فَبَثَّ جُنُودَهُ قَالَ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَائِمٌ يُصَلِّي بَيْنَ جَبَلَيْ نَخْلَةَ قَالَ فَرَجَعُوا إِلَى إِبْلِيسَ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ هُوَ الَّذِي حَدَثَ

English Translation
Waki' narrated to us, from Isra'il, from Simak, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas رضي الله عنهما who said: The devils used to have seats in the heavens from which they would listen to the revelation, and the stars would not be hurled at them. But when the Prophet ﷺ was sent, whenever one of them sat in his seat, a shooting star would be hurled at him. They mentioned this to Iblis, and he said: 'This must be because of something that has happened.' So he sent his armies, and they found the Prophet ﷺ praying between the two mountains of Makkah. They went back and told Iblis, and he said: 'This is the event that has occurred.'
