حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ سِ

مَاكٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ مَرَّ نَفَرٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ مَعَهُ غَنَمٌ لَهُ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالُوا مَا سَلَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِلَّا تَعَوُّذًا مِنْكُمْ فَعَمَدُوا إِلَيْهِ فَقَتَلُوهُ وَأَخَذُوا غَنَمَهُ فَأَتَوْا بِهَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى { وَلَا تَقُولُوا لِمَنْ أَلْقَى إِلَيْكُمْ السَّلَامَ لَسْتَ مُؤْمِنًا تَبْتَغُونَ عَرَضَ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا } إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ

English Translation

Yahya ibn Adam narrated to us, Isra'il narrated to us, from Simak, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas رضي الله عنهما who said: A group of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ passed by a man from the Bedouins who had been bitten by a snake. One of the Companions recited Surat al-Fatihah over him in exchange for sheep. When they came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him, he said: 'How did you know that it is a ruqyah (spiritual remedy)? You have done well. Divide them and allot a share for me among you.'
