Hadith #218
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ وَمُؤَمَّلٌ الْمَعْنَى قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ الْمُسْلِمِينَ أَصَابُوا رَجُلًا مِنْ عُظَمَاءِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَقَتَلُوهُ فَسَأَلُوا أَنْ يَشْتَرُوا جِيفَتَهُ
English Translation
'Abdullah ibn al-Walid and Mu'ammal narrated to us with the same meaning, they said: Sufyan narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Layla, from al-Hakam, from Miqsam, from Ibn 'Abbas رضي الله عنهما that the Muslims captured a man from the tribe of 'Aqil, and they captured the camel of the Prophet ﷺ (al-'Adba'). The man was brought to the Prophet ﷺ while he was tied up. He said: 'O Muhammad, why have you captured me and seized the stray camel of the pilgrims?' the Prophet ﷺ said: 'We have captured you because of the crime of your allies, the Thaqif, who detained two Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' Then the Prophet ﷺ released him in exchange for the two Muslim men.
