English Translation
'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Abu 'Awanah, from Musa ibn Abi 'A'ishah, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas رضي الله عنهما regarding His saying: 'Move not your tongue with it to hasten with it' [75:16]. He said: the Prophet ﷺ used to move his lips when revelation came to him. So it was said to him: 'Move not your tongue with it to hasten with it. Indeed, upon Us is its collection and its recitation.' [75:16-17] Meaning: upon Us to collect it in your chest and for you to recite it. 'So when We have recited it, follow its recitation.' [75:18] Meaning: listen to it and be silent. 'Then indeed, upon Us is its clarification.' [75:19] Upon Us is to clarify it through your tongue. After that, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would listen when Jibril came, and when Jibril departed, he would recite it as Jibril had recited it.
