English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Ikrimah — that [Ibn 'Abbas] said: 'I do not know but that he raised it [attributed it to the Prophet ﷺ]: He used to command the killing of snakes and say: 'Whoever leaves them out of fear of [their supposed] supernatural influence [ta'thir] — he is not of us.' Ibn 'Abbas also said: 'The household snake [al-jann] is a transformed form of the jinn, just as the apes were transformed from the Children of Israel.'
