حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ إِذْ قَالَ لَهُ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ أَنْ
تَ تُفْتِي أَنْ تَصْدُرَ الْحَائِضُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَكُونَ آخِرُ عَهْدِهَا بِالْبَيْتِ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَلَا تُفْتِ بِذَلِكَ فَقَالَ لَهُ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ إِمَّا لَا فَسَلْ فُلَانَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّةَ هَلْ أَمَرَهَا بِذَلِكَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَرَجَعَ إِلَيْهِ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ يَضْحَكُ وَيَقُولُ مَا أُرَاكَ إِلَّا قَدْ صَدَقْتَ

English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via Tawus — that Zayd ibn Thabit (رضي الله عنه) said to Ibn 'Abbas: 'You give a fatwa that a menstruating woman may depart [from Makkah] before making the farewell tawaf [tawaf al-wada'] her last act with the House [Ka'bah].' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then do not give this fatwa.' Ibn 'Abbas said to him: 'If you insist — then ask such-and-such Ansari woman whether the Prophet ﷺ commanded that.' Zayd ibn Thabit returned to him laughing and saying: 'I think you have spoken the truth.'
