English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via Tawus — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever purchases food must not sell it until he has taken possession of it.' [Ibn Tawus] said: 'I asked Ibn 'Abbas: why?' He said: 'Do you not see that they buy with gold while the food is still deferred [i.e., not yet received — so it would be selling what you do not yet possess]?'
