English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via Sulayman ibn Yasar, from one of the two sons of al-'Abbas — either al-Fadl or 'Abdullah — who said: 'I was the riding companion of the Prophet ﷺ. A man came and said: 'My father' — or 'my mother' [Yahya said: 'My stronger belief is that he said: my father'] — 'is elderly and has not performed Hajj. If I place him on a camel, he cannot remain on it, and if I tie him down, I fear for his safety. May I perform Hajj on his behalf?' He said: 'Would you pay a debt if one were owed by him?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then perform Hajj on his behalf.'' [A second chain via Hushaym and Yahya ibn Abi Ishaq from Sulayman ibn Yasar from 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas or al-Fadl ibn 'Abbas — that a man asked the Prophet ﷺ — and mentioned the same meaning.]
