English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via Rawh, from Hammad, from Humayd, from Bakr ibn 'Abdullah — that a Bedouin said to Ibn 'Abbas: 'What is the matter with the family of Mu'awiya — they offer water and honey; and the family of so-and-so offer milk; yet you offer nabidh. Is it out of stinginess or need?' Ibn 'Abbas said: 'There is no stinginess or need on our part. But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us with Usamah ibn Zayd riding behind him. He asked for a drink and we gave him from this — meaning the nabidh of the [Ka'bah] watering station [siqaya]. He drank from it and said: You have done well — continue doing thus.'
