حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ حَدَّثَنَا خُصَيْفٌ الْجَزَرِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَ
نِي أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ عَلَّمَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ التَّشَهُّدَ وَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يُعَلِّمَ النَّاسَ التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from Khusayf al-Jazari, from Abi 'Ubayda ibn 'Abdullah — that 'Abdullah [ibn Mas'ud] said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught him the tashahhud and commanded him to teach it to the people: Al-tahiyyatu lillahi wa al-salawatu wa al-tayyibat. Al-salamu 'alayka ayyuha al-nabiyyu wa rahmat Allahi wa barakatuh. Al-salamu 'alayna wa 'ala 'ibad Allahi al-salihin. Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluh. [All greetings are for Allah, and all prayers and goodly words. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon all the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.]'
