Hadith #146

English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Amr ibn al-Haytham, from al-Mas'udi, from Sa'id ibn 'Amr, from Abi 'Ubayda — that a man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'When is Laylat al-Qadr?' He said: 'Who among you remembers the night of al-Sahbawat [the 23rd]?' 'Abdullah said: 'I [remember it], may my father and mother be your ransom — I had some dates in my hand that I was eating [to delay the moment of Fajr], hiding behind the rear of my camel-saddle from the [approaching] dawn. And that was at the time the [crescent] moon had risen [i.e., the 23rd night].'
