English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Sufyan, from Sulayman, from Shaqiq — that he said: 'We were waiting for 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud in the mosque for him to come out to us. Yazid ibn Mu'awiya al-Nakha'i came to us and said: Shall I not go and see — if he is at home I may be able to bring him out to you. He came back and [Ibn Mas'ud] stood among us. He said: My being in your company is mentioned to me, but I do not come [more often] out of dislike for boring you. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to choose the right times to give us admonition, out of dislike for boring us [with excess].'
