Hadith #176

English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Ibrahim, from 'Ubayda — that 'Abdullah said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I know the last person to come out of Hellfire — a man who comes out of it crawling. He is told: Go and enter Paradise. He goes to enter but finds that the people have already taken all the dwellings. He returns and says: O Lord, the people have taken all the dwellings. He is told: Do you remember the time you were in the world? He says: Yes. He is told: Wish for something. He wishes. He is then told: You have what you wished for — and ten times the world. He says: Are You mocking me while You are the King?' [Ibn Mas'ud] said: 'And I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ laugh until his back teeth became visible.'
