حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ هُوَ فِيهَا فَاجِرٌ لِيَقْتَطِعَ بِهَا مَالَ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ لَقِيَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ فَقَالَ الْأَشْعَثُ فِيَّ وَاللَّهِ كَان
َ ذَلِكَ كَانَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ الْيَهُودِ أَرْضٌ فَجَحَدَنِي فَقَدَّمْتُهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَلَكَ بَيِّنَةٌ قُلْتُ لَا فَقَالَ لِلْيَهُودِيِّ احْلِفْ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِذَنْ يَحْلِفَ فَيَذْهَبَ مَالِي فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ { إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا } إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Shaqiq — that 'Abdullah said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Whoever swears a false oath to seize the wealth of a Muslim will meet Allah (عز وجل) while He is angry with him.' Al-Ash'ath [ibn Qays] said: 'By Allah, this was about me! There was a dispute between me and a Jew over some land — he denied my claim. I brought him before the Prophet ﷺ. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: Do you have a proof? I said: No. He said to the Jew: Take an oath. I said: O Messenger of Allah, if he takes an oath he will take my property. Then Allah (عز وجل) revealed: Indeed, those who sell the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price... [3:77] — to the end of the verse.'
