English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Jarir, from Mansur, from Ibrahim, from 'Alqama — that 'Abdullah said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed a prayer — I do not know whether he added or subtracted [a rak'a]. When he gave the salam, it was said to him: O Messenger of Allah, has something happened in the prayer? He said: No — what is it? They said: You prayed so-and-so many [rak'ahs]. So he folded his legs and prostrated two prostrations of forgetfulness [sujud al-sahw]. When he gave the salam, he said: I am but a human — I forget as you forget. When one of you doubts in his prayer, let him seek what is correct [fataharra], and when he gives the salam, let him prostrate two prostrations.'
