قَالَ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا تَعُدُّونَ فِيكُمْ الرَّقُوبَ قَالَ قُلْنَا الَّذِي لَا وَلَدَ لَهُ قَالَ لَا وَلَكِنْ الرَّقُوبُ الَّذِي لَمْ يُقَدِّمْ مِنْ وَلَدِهِ شَيْئًا
English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) that he said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: What do you consider among yourselves to be al-raqub [the one bereft]? We said: The one who has no children. He said: No — al-raqub is the one who has not sent any of his children ahead [i.e., has not had a child die before him, and thereby lost that reward and intercession].'
