English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Shaqiq — that 'Abdullah said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You must be truthful — for truthfulness guides to righteousness [birr], and righteousness guides to Paradise. A man keeps telling the truth until he is recorded before Allah (عز وجل) as a truthful one [siddiq]. And beware of lying — for lying guides to wickedness [fujur], and wickedness guides to the Fire. A man keeps lying and seeking after lies until he is recorded before Allah (عز وجل) as a great liar [kadhdhab].'
