Hadith #223

English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Isma'il, from Ayyub, from Humayd ibn Hilal, from Abi Qatada, from Yusayr ibn Jabir — that he said: 'A red wind blew in Kufa. A man came repeatedly crying out: O 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, the Hour has come! [Ibn Mas'ud] was reclining; he sat up and said: The Hour will not come until inheritance is no longer distributed and there is no rejoicing over war gains — [meaning] an enemy gathers against the people of Islam and the people of Islam gather against them. He then mentioned the hadith, saying: A cry will reach them that the Dajjal has appeared after [to harm] their families. They will abandon what is in their hands and turn back. They will send ten horsemen as a vanguard. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I know their names, the names of their fathers, and the colors of their horses — they are the best horsemen on the face of the earth that day — or he said: among the best horsemen on the face of the earth that day.'
