Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ حَدَّ
ثَنِي قَيْسٌ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَا حَسَدَ إِلَّا فِي اثْنَيْنِ رَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ مَالًا فَسَلَّطَهُ عَلَى هَلَكَتِهِ فِي الْحَقِّ وَرَجُلٌ آتَاهُ اللَّهُ حِكْمَةً فَهُوَ يَقْضِي بِهَا وَيُعَلِّمُهَا النَّاسَ

English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya, from Isma'il, from Qays — that Ibn Mas'ud said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: There is no [lawful] envy [hasad — meaning admiring emulation] except in two cases: a man whom Allah has given wealth and he uses it entirely for what is right, and a man whom Allah has given wisdom [hikma] and he judges by it and teaches it to people.'
