English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya, from al-Tayymi, from Abi 'Uthman — that Ibn Mas'ud said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Let none of you be deterred from his pre-dawn meal [suhur] by the adhan of Bilal — for he calls — or said: announces — so that those who are praying at night may return [to rest] and those who are sleeping may wake. [The true Fajr] is not when [the light] appears thus' — and he raised his closed hand upward [indicating the false dawn going straight up] — 'but when it appears thus' — and Yahya spread his two index fingers apart [indicating the true dawn spreading on the horizon]. Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said: This hadith — I have not heard it from anyone [else].'
