English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Ibn Numayr, from Mujalid, from 'Amir, from al-Aswad ibn Yazid — that he said: 'The iqama was called in the mosque. We came walking with 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud. When the people went into ruku', 'Abdullah went into ruku' and we went into ruku' with him while still walking. A man passed in front of him and said: Peace be upon you, O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman! 'Abdullah, while in ruku', said: Allah and His Messenger have spoken truly. When [the prayer] ended, some of the people asked him: Why did you say "Allah and His Messenger have spoken truly" when the man greeted you? He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Among the signs of the Hour is when greeting is extended only to those one already knows.'
