English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Waki', from al-A'mash, from 'Abdullah ibn Murra, from Abi al-Ahwas — that 'Abdullah said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Indeed, I declare myself free from every [bond of] close friendship [khulla] before each person. And had I taken a khalil [intimate friend], I would have taken Abu Bakr as my khalil. Verily, your companion [Muhammad] is the khalil of Allah (عز وجل).'
