English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Yazid, from Fudayl ibn Marzuq, from Abi Salama al-Juhani, from al-Qasim ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, from his father — that 'Abdullah said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Whenever a person is stricken with anxiety and grief and says: O Allah, I am Your servant, and the son of Your servant, and the son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your decree runs through me. Your judgment over me is just. I ask You by every name that is Yours — by which You named Yourself, or taught to any of Your creation, or revealed in Your Book, or kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen — to make the Quran the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the removal of my grief, and the departure of my anxiety — Allah will remove his anxiety and grief and replace them with relief. It was said: O Messenger of Allah, should we not learn it? He said: Yes — it is fitting for whoever hears it to learn it.'
