English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Yazid, from Sharik ibn 'Abdillah, from 'Ali ibn Badhima, from Abi 'Ubayda — that 'Abdullah said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: When the Children of Israel fell into sins, their scholars forbade them but they did not desist. Then [the scholars] sat with them in their gatherings — Yazid said: I believe he also said: and in their markets — and ate with them and drank with them. So Allah struck their hearts against one another and cursed them on the tongue of David and Jesus son of Mary: "That was because they disobeyed and used to transgress" [5:78]. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was reclining and then he sat up and said: No! By the One in Whose Hand my soul is — [not] until you bend them forcibly toward the truth.'
