حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ حَدَّثَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ أَبِي النَّجُودِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ جَاءَ ابْنُ النَّوَّاحَةِ وَابْنُ أُثَالٍ رَسُولَا مُسَيْلِمَةَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَهُمَا أَتَشْهَدَانِ أَنِّي رَسُ
ولُ اللَّهِ قَالَا نَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُسَيْلِمَةَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِ لَوْ كُنْتُ قَاتِلًا رَسُولًا لَقَتَلْتُكُمَا قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَمَضَتْ السُّنَّةُ أَنَّ الرُّسُلَ لَا تُقْتَلُ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu al-Nadr, from al-Mas'udi, from 'Asim ibn Abi al-Najud, from Abi Wa'il — that 'Abdullah said: 'Ibn al-Nawwaha and Ibn Uthal came as envoys of Musaylima to the Prophet ﷺ. He said to them: Do you both testify that I am the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? They said: We testify that Musaylima is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. the Prophet ﷺ said: I believe in Allah and His messengers. Were I one who kills an envoy, I would have killed you both. 'Abdullah said: And thus the precedent was established that envoys are not to be killed.'
