It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Arim ibn al-Fadl and 'Affan, from Mu'tamir, from his father, from Abi Tamima, from 'Amr — possibly al-Bikali — from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud — that he said: 'The sons of Mulayka came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: Our mother used to honor her husband, show kindness to her children, and [be generous to] the guest — but she had buried her infant daughter [wa'd] in the pre-Islamic era. He said: Your mother is in the Fire. They turned away, and distress was visible on their faces. He commanded that they be called back. They returned, and joy was visible on their faces — hoping something new had been said. He said: My own mother is alongside your mother. Then a hypocrite said: What does this do for his mother when we walk in his footsteps? An Ansari man — and I never saw anyone who asked more questions — said: O Messenger of Allah, has your Lord given you any promise regarding her — or them? the Messenger of Allah ﷺ thought he had heard something and replied: I have not asked my Lord about it, and He has not given me hope in it. But I will stand the Praiseworthy Station [al-Maqam al-Mahmud] on the Day of Resurrection. The Ansari said: And what is the Praiseworthy Station? He said: That is when you are brought [before Allah] naked, barefoot, and uncircumcised. The first to be clothed will be Ibrahim (عليه السلام) — it will be said: Clothe My khalil! — and he will be brought two white garments and will put them on. Then he will sit and face the Throne. Then my garments will be brought and I will put them on, and I will stand to his right in a station that no one else will stand — and the earlier and later generations will envy me it. And a river from al-Kawthar will be opened flowing into the Pool. The hypocrite said: Water never flows except over smooth [hal] or pebbled [radhradh] ground. An Ansari asked: O Messenger of Allah, is it over smooth or pebbled? He said: Its smooth surface is musk, and its pebbles are pearls [al-tum]. The hypocrite said: I have never heard the like of today — water rarely flows over smooth or pebbled ground without something growing from it. The Ansari asked: O Messenger of Allah, does it have growth? He said: Yes — branches of gold. The hypocrite said: I have never heard the like of today — a branch rarely grows without having leaves and fruit. The Ansari asked: O Messenger of Allah, does it have fruit? He said: Yes — gems of all kinds. Its water is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. Whoever drinks a single draught from it will never thirst after it, and whoever is denied it will never be quenched again.'
