حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ حَدَّثَنَا عِمْرَانُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ عَنْ أَبِي عِيَاضٍ عَنْ عَ
بْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِيَّاكُمْ وَمُحَقَّرَاتِ الذُّنُوبِ فَإِنَّهُنَّ يَجْتَمِعْنَ عَلَى الرَّجُلِ حَتَّى يُهْلِكْنَهُ وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ضَرَبَ لَهُنَّ مَثَلًا كَمَثَلِ قَوْمٍ نَزَلُوا أَرْضَ فَلَاةٍ فَحَضَرَ صَنِيعُ الْقَوْمِ فَجَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ يَنْطَلِقُ فَيَجِيءُ بِالْعُودِ وَالرَّجُلُ يَجِيءُ بِالْعُودِ حَتَّى جَمَعُوا سَوَادًا فَأَجَّجُوا نَارًا وَأَنْضَجُوا مَا قَذَفُوا فِيهَا

English Translation
Sulayman ibn Dawud narrated to us, 'Imran narrated to us, from Qatadah, from 'Abd Rabbihi, from Abu 'Iyad, from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed, Shaytan has an influence (lammah) upon the son of Adam, and the angel has an influence. The influence of Shaytan is to promise evil and deny the truth. The influence of the angel is to promise goodness and affirm the truth. Whoever finds the latter, let him know it is from Allah and praise Allah. And whoever finds the former, let him seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan.' Then he recited: 'Shaytan threatens you with poverty and orders you to immorality.' [2:268]
