Hadith #437
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا بَشِيرُ بْنُ سَلْمَانَ كَانَ يَنْزِلُ فِي مَسْجِدِ الْمَطْمُورَةِ
عَنْ سَيَّارٍ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ أَصَابَتْهُ فَاقَةٌ فَأَنْزَلَهَا بِالنَّاسِ لَمْ تُسَدَّ فَاقَتُهُ وَمَنْ أَنْزَلَهَا بِاللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَوْشَكَ اللَّهُ لَهُ بِالْغِنَى إِمَّا أَجَلٌ عَاجِلٌ أَوْ غِنًى عَاجِلٌ

English Translation
Abu Ahmad al-Zubayri narrated to us, Bashir ibn Salman narrated to us — he used to reside near the mosque of al-Matmurah — from Sayyar Abu Hamzah, from Tariq ibn Shihab, from 'Abdullah who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The first deficiency that entered the Children of Israel was that a man would meet another man and say: O so-and-so, fear Allah and leave what you are doing, for it is not lawful for you. Then he would meet him the next day and that would not prevent him from eating with him, drinking with him, and sitting with him. When they did this, Allah struck the hearts of some of them with the hearts of others.' Then he ﷺ said: 'By no means! You must enjoin the right and forbid the wrong, and restrain the hand of the wrongdoer, and bend him to the truth forcefully, or Allah will strike the hearts of some of you with the hearts of others, and then He will curse you as He cursed them.'
