English Translation
'Affan narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, 'Asim narrated to us, from Zirr, that a man said to Ibn Mas'ud: 'How do you read this letter — is it water ghayr yasin or ghayr asin (not changing, referring to the Quran: 47:15)?' He said: 'Have you memorized the entire Quran except for this?' The man said: 'I recite all of it in a single rak'ah.' He said: 'Pouring it out like the pouring of poetry! Indeed, some people recite the Quran and it does not go past their collarbones. But when it settles in the heart and takes root therein, that is when it benefits.'
