Hadith #552

English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-Samad, from Hisham, from Qatada, from al-Hasan, from 'Imran ibn Husayn — that 'Abdullah said: 'We conversed one night at the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until we prolonged the conversation late, then returned to our families. When morning came, we went early to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: the Prophet ﷺs were displayed before me with their nations and their followers from their nations. A prophet would pass with three from his ummah, a prophet with a small band from his ummah, a prophet with just a few, a prophet with a single man, and a prophet with no one at all — until Musa ibn 'Imran passed before me in a great throng of Banu Isra'il. When I saw them I was impressed and said: O my Lord, who are these? He said: This is your brother Musa ibn 'Imran and those with him from Banu Isra'il. I said: O my Lord, where is my ummah? He said: Look to your right. I looked and the hills of Mecca were filled with faces of men. I said: Who are these, O my Lord? He said: Your ummah. I said: I am well pleased, my Lord. He said: Are you pleased? I said: Yes. He said: Look to your left. I looked and the horizon was filled with faces of men. He said: Are you pleased? I said: I am pleased. It was said: With these [there are] seventy thousand who will enter Paradise without reckoning. Then 'Ukkasha ibn Mihsan, one of Banu Asad ibn Khuzayma, spoke up and said: O Prophet of Allah, pray to Allah to make me one of them. He said: O Allah, make him one of them. Then another man spoke up and said: O Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah to make me one of them. He said: 'Ukkasha got there before you.' [Multiple chains narrating the same account are given.]
