English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-Samad, from Mahdi, from Wasil, from Abi Wa'il — that 'Abdullah said: 'I have memorized the paired surahs [al-qara'in] that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pair — eighteen surahs from al-Mufassal and two surahs from the family of Ha-Mim.' [A second chain] via Muhammad ibn Bakr, from Sa'id, from Qatada, from al-Hasan and al-'Ala' ibn Ziyad, from 'Imran ibn Husayn, from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud — that he said: 'We conversed late into the night at the Messenger of Allah ﷺ' — and the rest of the account [as in 190] is mentioned.
