حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ وَيَعْلَى عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ أَتَى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ الشَّامَ فَقَالَ لَهُ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ حِمْصَ اقْرَأْ عَلَيْنَا فَقَرَأَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُورَةَ يُوسُفَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْقَوْمِ وَاللَّهِ مَا هَكَذَا أُنْزِلَتْ فَقَالَ عَبْ
دُ اللَّهِ وَيْحَكَ وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ قَرَأْتُهَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَكَذَا فَقَالَ أَحْسَنْتَ فَبَيْنَا هُوَ يُرَاجِعُهُ إِذْ وَجَدَ مِنْهُ رِيحَ الْخَمْرِ فَقَالَ أَتَشْرَبُ الرِّجْسَ وَتُكَذِّبُ بِالْقُرْآنِ وَاللَّهِ لَا تُزَاوِلُنِي حَتَّى أَجْلِدَكَ فَجَلَدَهُ الْحَدَّ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Ibn Numayr and Ya'la, from al-A'mash, from Ibrahim, from 'Alqama — that he said: ''Abdullah came to Syria [al-Sham] and some people from Hims said to him: Recite to us. He recited Surah Yusuf to them. A man from the group said: By Allah, it was not revealed like this! 'Abdullah said: Woe to you! By Allah, I recited it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ just like this and he said: You did well. While he was discussing it with the man, he detected the smell of wine on him. He said: Do you drink filth [al-rijs] and reject the Quran?! By Allah, you will not escape me until I flog you. So he flogged him the prescribed punishment [hadd].'
