English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Ibn Numayr, from al-A'mash, from Ibrahim, from 'Alqama — that 'Abdullah said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in prayer and either added [rak'as] or subtracted [rak'as].' Ibrahim said: 'Or the forgetting of whether he added or subtracted was on my part.' [He continued:] 'We said: O Messenger of Allah, has something changed in the prayer? He said: What is it? We said: You prayed such-and-such [rak'as] before. He said: I am but a human being — I forget as you forget. So when one of you forgets, let him perform two prostrations [of forgetfulness]. Then he turned and performed two prostrations.'
