حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْمَخْزُومِيِّ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ أَتَيْتُ خَالَتِي مَيْمُونَةَ بِنْتَ الْحَارِثِ فَبِتُّ عِنْدَهَا فَوَجَدْتُ لَيْلَتَهَا تِلْكَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْعِشَاءَ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ بَيْتَهُ فَوَضَعَ رَأْسَهُ عَلَى وِسَادَةٍ مِنْ أَدَمٍ حَشْوُهَا لِيفٌ فَجِئْتُ فَوَضَعْتُ رَأْسِي عَلَى نَاحِيَةٍ مِنْهَا فَاسْتَيْقَظَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَنَظَرَ فَإِذَا عَلَيْهِ لَيْلٌ فَسَبَّحَ وَكَبَّرَ حَتَّى نَامَ ثُمَّ اسْتَيْقَظَ وَقَدْ ذَهَبَ شَطْرُ اللَّيْلِ أَوْ قَالَ ثُلُثَاهُ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَضَى حَاجَتَهُ ثُمَّ جَاءَ إِلَى قِرْبَةٍ عَلَى شَجْبٍ فِيهَا مَاءٌ فَمَضْمَضَ ثَلَاثًا وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثَلَاثًا وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلَاثًا وَذِرَاعَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا ثَلَاثًا وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَأُذُنَيْهِ ثُمَّ غَسَلَ قَدَمَيْهِ قَالَ يَزِيدُ حَسِبْتُهُ قَالَ ثَلَاثًا ثَلَاثًا ثُمَّ أَتَى مُصَلَّاهُ فَقُمْتُ وَصَنَعْتُ كَمَا صَنَعَ ثُمَّ جِئْتُ فَقُمْتُ عَن
ْ يَسَارِهِ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ بِصَلَاتِهِ فَأَمْهَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى إِذَا عَرَفَ أَنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ بِصَلَاتِهِ لَفَتَ يَمِينَهُ فَأَخَذَ بِأُذُنِي فَأَدَارَنِي حَتَّى أَقَامَنِي عَنْ يَمِينِهِ فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا رَأَى أَنَّ عَلَيْهِ لَيْلًا رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَلَمَّا ظَنَّ أَنَّ الْفَجْرَ قَدْ دَنَا قَامَ فَصَلَّى سِتَّ رَكَعَاتٍ أَوْتَرَ بِالسَّابِعَةِ حَتَّى إِذَا أَضَاءَ الْفَجْرُ قَامَ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ وَضَعَ جَنْبَهُ فَنَامَ حَتَّى سَمِعْتُ فَخِيخَهُ ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ بِلَالٌ فَآذَنَهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَخَرَجَ فَصَلَّى وَمَا مَسَّ مَاءً فَقُلْتُ لِسَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ مَا أَحْسَنَ هَذَا فَقَالَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ أَمَا وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ قُلْتُ ذَاكَ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فَقَالَ مَهْ إِنَّهَا لَيْسَتْ لَكَ وَلَا لِأَصْحَابِكَ إِنَّهَا لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّهُ كَانَ يَحْفَظُ

English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Abbad ibn Mansur, from 'Ikrimah ibn Khalid al-Makhzumi, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr — that Ibn 'Abbas said: 'I came to my maternal aunt Maymunah bint al-Harith and spent the night with her. That happened to be her night with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed 'Isha', then entered his home and laid his head on a leather pillow stuffed with palm fiber. I came and laid my head on one end of it. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ woke up and looked, and saw that night was still upon them. He recited subhan Allah and Allahu akbar until he fell asleep again. Then he woke up when half the night — or he said: two-thirds of it — had passed. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ rose, answered the call of nature, then came to a water-skin hanging on a wooden frame [shajb] and in it was water. He rinsed his mouth three times, sniffed water three times, washed his face three times, his forearms three times each, wiped his head and ears, then washed his feet — Yazid said: I think he said three times each. Then he went to his prayer place. I stood and did as he had done, then came and stood to his left, intending to follow him in prayer. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ waited until, when he knew that I wanted to pray with him, he turned to his right, took hold of my ear, and moved me around until he positioned me to his right. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed two rak'ahs as long as he saw night remained. When he thought dawn was near, he stood and prayed six rak'ahs and made the seventh witr. Then when the dawn brightened, he stood and prayed two rak'ahs, then laid on his side and slept until I heard his light snoring [fakhikh]. Then Bilal came and announced the prayer time. He went out and prayed without touching water [without performing new wudu].' Sa'id ibn Jubayr [the narrator] said: I said how excellent this is! Sa'id ibn Jubayr said: By Allah, I said the same thing to Ibn 'Abbas, and he said: 'Stop [mah] — this does not apply to you or your companions. It belongs to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ alone, for he was divinely protected [from ritual impurity during sleep].'
