Hadith #97

حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْبَخْتَرِيِّ قَالَ تَرَاءَيْنَا هِلَالَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ بِذَاتِ عِرْقٍ ف
َأَرْسَلْنَا إِلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ نَسْأَلُهُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدْ مَدَّهُ لِرُؤْيَتِهِ فَإِنْ أُغْمِيَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَكْمِلُوا الْعِدَّةَ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via Shu'ba, from 'Amr ibn Murra, from Abi al-Bakhtari — that he said: 'We sought to sight the crescent of Ramadan at Dhat 'Irq and sent to Ibn 'Abbas to ask him. He said: the Prophet ﷺ of Allah (ﷺ) said: Indeed, Allah (عز وجل) has extended it [the month] for its sighting — so if it is obscured from you [by clouds], complete the count [to thirty days].'
