حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا وَائِلٍ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا جَاءَ إِلَى ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ فَقَالَ إِنِّي قَرَأْتُ الْمُفَصَّلَ كُلَّهُ فِي رَكْعَةٍ
فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ هَذًّا كَهَذِّ الشِّعْرِ لَقَدْ عَرَفْتُ النَّظَائِرَ الَّتِي كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرُنُ بَيْنَهُنَّ قَالَ فَذَكَرَ عِشْرِينَ سُورَةً مِنْ الْمُفَصَّلِ سُورَتَيْنِ سُورَتَيْنِ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Ja'far, from Shu'ba, from 'Amr ibn Murra — that he heard Abu Wa'il narrate: A man came to Ibn Mas'ud and said: I recited all of al-Mufassal in one rak'a. 'Abdullah said: '[You rattled through it] like rattling off poetry! Indeed I know the paired surahs [al-naza'ir] that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pair together.' Then he mentioned twenty surahs from al-Mufassal — two surahs in each rak'a.
