English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Ja'far, from Shu'ba — I heard Abu Ishaq narrate from Abi al-Ahwas — that he said: 'Indeed Muhammad (ﷺ) was taught the openings of good, its comprehensive expressions, and its closing formulas. He said: When you sit [for the tashahhud] in every two rak'as, say: Al-tahiyyatu lillahi wal-salawatu wal-tayyibat, al-salamu 'alayka ayyuha al-nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, al-salamu 'alayna wa 'ala 'ibadi llahi al-salihin, ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluh [All greetings of honor are for Allah, and all prayers and good deeds; peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings; peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah; I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger]. Then let each of you choose the supplication he likes most and supplicate with it to his Lord (عز وجل).'
