Hadith #129

English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Hajjaj, from Shu'ba, from Abi al-Tayyah, from a man from [the tribe of] Tayy', from 'Abdullah — that he said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from tabaqqur [accumulating excess] in family and wealth.' Abu Hamza — who was sitting with him — said: 'Yes; Akhram al-Ta'i narrated to me from his father, from 'Abdullah, from the Prophet ﷺ' — and 'Abdullah said: What then [is the ruling on] those who have families in Radhan, and families in Medina, and families in such-and-such [place]? Shu'ba says: I asked Abu al-Tayyah: What is tabaqqur? He said: [Excessive] increase and abundance.
