English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-Rahman, from Sufyan, from 'Umara ibn al-Qa'qa', from Abu Zur'a, from a companion of ours — that he said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us and said: Nothing infects anything [by its own nature]. A Bedouin man stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah, what about [when] a single mange spot appears on the lip or tail of a camel in a large herd, and then all of them become mangy? the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Who then infected the first one? There is no contagion [per se], no ill omen from [the cry of] an owl [hama], and no [superstition in the month of] Safar. Allah created every soul, and He wrote for it its lifespan, its calamities, and its provision.'
