Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هَمَّامٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنْ فُلْفُلَةَ الْجُعْفِيِّ قَالَ فَزِعْتُ فِيمَنْ فَزِعَ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ فِي الْمَصَاحِفِ فَدَخَلْنَا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْقَوْمِ إِنَّا لَمْ نَأْتِكَ زَائِر
ِينَ وَلَكِنْ جِئْنَاكَ حِينَ رَاعَنَا هَذَا الْخَبَرُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ الْقُرْآنَ نَزَلَ عَلَى نَبِيِّكُمْ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ سَبْعَةِ أَبْوَابٍ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَحْرُفٍ أَوْ قَالَ حُرُوفٍ وَإِنَّ الْكِتَابَ قَبْلَهُ كَانَ يَنْزِلُ مِنْ بَابٍ وَاحِدٍ عَلَى حَرْفٍ وَاحِدٍ

English Translation
It was narrated from Fulfulah al-Ju'fi (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Kamil, from Zuhayr, from Abu Hammam, from 'Uthman ibn Hassan — that he said: 'I was among those who hurried to 'Abdullah [ibn Mas'ud] over the matter of the mushafs [Quran copies]. We entered upon him and a man from the group said: We have not come to visit you, but we came to you because this news alarmed us. He said: Indeed the Quran was revealed to your Prophet (ﷺ) from seven gates in seven ahruf — or he said: letters — and indeed the scripture before it was revealed from one gate in one harf.'
