English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Ja'far, from Sa'id, from Qatada, from Khilas and Abu Hassan, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Utba ibn Mas'ud — that Subay'a bint al-Harith gave birth fifteen nights after the death of her husband. Abu al-Sanabil entered upon her and said: 'It seems you are considering remarriage. You cannot do that until the longer of the two terms has elapsed.' She went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him of what Abu al-Sanabil said. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Abu al-Sanabil has lied. When someone comes to you who pleases you, bring him to me — or he said: inform me.' He informed her that her 'idda had ended. — [Second chain] via 'Abdullah ibn Bakr, from Sa'id, from Qatada, from Khilas, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Utba — [he narrated the story of] Subay'a bint al-Harith — and he mentioned the hadith or something similar. His wording says: 'When a suitable match [kufu'] comes to you, bring him to me — or: inform me.' And Ibn Mas'ud is not mentioned in this chain. ['Abd al-Wahhab] says: The chain of Khilas from Ibn 'Utba is mursal.
