English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Mu'adh, from Ibn 'Awn and Ibn Abi 'Adi, from Ibn 'Awn — Muslim al-Batin narrated to me from Ibrahim al-Taymi, from his father, from 'Amr ibn Maymun — that he said: 'Ibn Mas'ud rarely — or almost never — missed a Thursday without me going to him. And in all that time I never heard him say regarding anything: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said...' Then one evening he said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said...' — Ibn Abi 'Adi says: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say...' — then he bowed his head. I looked at him — he was standing with the buttons of his shirt undone, his eyes flooded with tears, and his veins swelling. He then said: 'Or something less than that, or more than that, or close to that, or like that.'' [unable to complete the hadith from emotion]
