English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Affan, from Hammad ibn Salama, from 'Asim ibn Bahdala, from Abu Wa'il — that he said: 'A man from the Ansar said a word that contained offense [mawjida] against the Prophet ﷺ, and I could not contain myself from informing the Prophet ﷺ of it — and I wished I had ransomed [my silence] with all my family and wealth. He (ﷺ) said: "They caused Moses (عليه السلام) more harm than that, yet he was patient." He then mentioned that a prophet was denied by his people and wounded when he came to them with the command of Allah — and he said, while wiping the blood from his face: "O Allah, forgive my people, for they do not know."'
